On June 25th the first general assembly of the ERC-Synergy Project Dharma took place at the CNRS in Paris. The assembly is primarily formed by the three Principal Investigators of the project (Emmanuel Francis at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, CNRS, Paris, Arlo Griffiths at the École française d’Extrême-Orient, EFEO, Paris, and Annette Schmiedchen at the Universität von Humboldt, UBER, Berlin) and Florinda De Simini, scientific coordinator for the partner institution, the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. The assembly was also attended by Daniel Balogh (UBER), Axelle Janiak (CNRS), Adeline Levivier (EFEO), and Jens Thomas (UBER).
The topics that have been discussed range from the organization of the kick-off workshop in Berlin, which will take place from September 16th to the 22nd, to several administrative issues related to the management of the project.
The Synergy Project DHARMA (“The Domestication of Hindu Asceticism and the Religious Making of South and South-East Asia”) is deeply interrelated with the SHIVADHARMA project, as the University “L’Orientale” will contribute to two of the four Task Forces that structure the DHARMA project. These are Task Force B, ‘From the Deccan to Arakan’, and Task Force D ‘Other textual sources’. For more information and updates on the DHARMA project, check the ‘Dharma blog’.
