The Tenth International Intensive Sanskrit Reading Retreat took place at the École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO), seat of Siem Reap, Cambodia, from January 3rd to 16th, 2019.

The workshop revolved around the reading of Sanskrit texts whose editions are still in preparation, and was structured in three reading sessions a day: 1) Chapter 12 of Raghuvaṃśa of Kālidāsa, with the commentary of Vallabhadeva (sessions led by Csaba Dezső, Eötvös Lorand University, Budapest); 2) the discussion on the nature of the recognition (pratyabhijñā) in the Nyāyamañjarī (9th century) of Jayantabhaṭṭa (readings led by Alex Watson, Asoka University, Delhi); 3) a selection of mostly unpublished Khmer inscriptions in Sanskrit, dating from the 7th through the 12th centuries (sessions led by Dominic Goodall, EFEO, Pondicherry).

Besides reading Sanskrit texts, the scholars participating in the workshop visited every day the monuments in and around Angkor, studying in situ inscriptions and iconography. The reading sessions often took place during these visits in the archaeological sites.
